We’re part of Kingfisher plc, the parent company of some household name brands.

You may have heard of some of them. As a group, we have nearly 1,200 stores in 10 countries across Europe. Together, they offer DIY and home improvement products and services to nearly six million customers who shop in our stores and online every week. We have one clear purpose: to create good homes by making home improvement accessible for everyone.

We’re creators, designers, thinkers and doers – but we’re the sum of all our parts, and the magic really happens when we come together and collaborate.

We live and breathe agile development. We have multiple scrum teams working on different features and products, so that we can design, build, develop and test at speed. And, more importantly, so that we can prove the value of ideas quickly. We’re not afraid of things failing. Fail fast and you learn fast.

Plan my bathroom

We launched planmybathroom.com in early August 2017. It’s a handy tool to support customers who take on their own DIY projects at home. Research told us that 39% people don’t complete their bathroom projects and it’s those 39% we set out to help.

Planmybathroom.com takes a customer from a planning and inspiration mindset all the way through to building and installing bathroom products. The site’s features include pre-modelled bathrooms to inspire at the planning stage; a visualisation tool to help them sketch out and customise their own dream bathroom; plus a catalogue of how-to guides to help bring their dream to life.

We’re continuously enhancing and introducing new features to the site based on customer feedback and analytics. Soon, we’ll be launching our must-have features to other OpCos, including Castorama in Poland and France.

Brilliant Basics. This pretty much does what it says on the tin. Our CEO and CIO recognised that we need to make our omnichannel offering best-in-class, because customers expect no less. This means making sure we have a seamless customer journey - making it easy for customers to move from store to online – and vice versa. Better product content information; an easier checkout experience; a mobile-first mindset and a simple click & collect process: these are at the core of our digital offering.

It’s not just about the basics though. With ever-changing customer expectations, we’ve also recognised the need to focus on multiple points in the customer journey. What we can say is we deploy cutting-edge technology and innovation to solve their problems. The rest is where it gets a bit top secret. But customers are at the heart of everything we do here – whether they’re renting, homeowners or professional tradespeople. We base what we do on our in-depth understanding of the reality of their lives, their home improvement needs and the types of houses they live and work in.

We spend time in store with our colleagues; we spend time talking to our customers. That’s how we get to know what makes them tick. We’ve even spent time in the back of a white van to test whether professionals need a tool to help them keep track of their moving stock (short answer: they don’t).
